In 1777 4 of the 6 nations decided to join the British in the War instead of staying neutral.Others allied with rebels.However Brant was not present at this time.In February,1779 Brant went to Montreal to meet Frederick Haldimand who was the Military Commander for Quebec .He then appointed Brant as Captain of the Northern Confederated Indians.Brant was promised provisions for his men as well as wealth for him self.In early 1779 Brant and his volunteers went to America as a spy and also for provisions.On his journey to learn the Americans plans Brant fought a group of American Militia at the Battle of Minisink. This caused Brant to not be able to spy on the Americans.In April 1781 Brant soundly defeated a Group of Clark`s men ending the Americans attack on .This was a big win for Chief Joseph Brant,the British and the First Nations.
